This is beautiful ironstone child’s tea set dating to c1860. Simply elegant, and elegantly simple, with clean lines and modest details, a studied contrast to some of the busy and highly decorated ceramics of the period. The set is unmarked. It was made in the mid to late 19th century by Anthony Shaw a pottery manufactory in the Staffordshire region of England. Moulded in the Lily of the Valley pattern, which was also made by several other English potteries.
The set has 15 pieces (17 including lids) is comprised of:
Teapot with Lid, 5 inches tall, 4-1/2 inches long (spoon dings on top rim and edge of lid),
Sugar Box or Biscuit Jar with Lid, 4-1/2 inches tall (spoon dings),
Cream pitcher or milk jug, 4 inches tall
Six cups, 2-1/4 inches tall (discoloration on two cups); and
Six saucers, 5 inches in diameter (tiny fracture on edge of one saucer).
    As described above, t
he set is in great condition, especially considering it was played with by generations of children. The set has
    slight
glaze crazing as can be expected with these early ironstone play sets.
    No other
chips, cracks, or repairs. The set is finely potted and the
    decoration was moulded
with great deal of attention to detail. This excellent little tea set, in the hard to come by pattern, is a must-have for any advanced collection.
